- Continental drift is the movement of tectonic plates due to magma currents in the Earth's mantle
- Plates move slowly around Earth and re-arrange continents
- This can help to explain the same animals or plants being in different continents
- It is predicted that in around 200 million years, the plates will have formed another supercontinent
- If the continents were re-arranged and repositioned, they would fit together like a jigsaw. About 225 million years ago, the continents were all connected to form the super continent Pangaea which then split into Gordwana (South America, Africa, Antarctica and Australia) and Laurasia (North America, Asia and Europe)
